Poor, Poor Marche Taylor. Today she is a victim. She was wrongfully denied entrance to her prom because of an innocent little dress that the big bad evil school wouldn't let her wear. She knew that there was a dress code for prom but she's a princess and the rules NEVER apply to her! How dare they interfere with her dreams of looking like a hooker at prom!!!
I am sorry folks but freedom of expression is null and vid at a school function - especially when a child shows up wearing two strips of cloth covering her nipples.
I support the schools action 100%!!!
1. They were right to deny her entry to the prom. Its a teenaged celebration of the completion of high school. It is not a music video or a brothel.
2. They were right to keep the money for the tickets. The school did not breach the contract - Miss Taylor breached the contract. She knew that there was a dress code and she CHOSE to ignore it! They owe her NOTHING.
3. She was arrested because she was causing a scene and refused to leave the premises. What should the school do? Allow a rude screaming brat to remain on the premises so she can ruin the prom for the other people in attendance (they seem to have figured out te dress code). They aren't allowed to touch her in any way - so they did what they had to do. They called the cops. Miss Marche could have left peacefully and she CHOSE not to do so.

I really think that some parents need to be smacked witht he crap they let their children wear. I also think using the term parents to describe the people that have these children is generous.
Many parents today are so caught up in "being cool" and their babies "being hot" that they ceased being parents long ago.
Sorry, but the daily skankiness of attire in America does not make this ok.
This was a high school prom not a video or even a private party. She was given the rules when she filled out the order form for the prom tickets. They even boldfaced and made the type larger for the dress code rule on the paper. She KNEW the rule and she chose to ignore it.
So she needs to quit her whiing. Its her own fault she missed her prom. Hell, she even chose to go to jail rather than going home.
Guess what - its not ok to dress like you are a Playboy Bunny in high school.
As a parent, I would be pissed if they allowed somebody dressed like a Playmate into school functions.
As someone who works with youth, I think they should've asked her to go home and put a nice jacket on and return to the prom. Or how about having shawls on hand for those who arrive immodestly attired.
I know there is a lot of cleavage showing at my son's school. I don't like the manner in which the girls are ordered to cover-up. it is kind of demeaning and should be a private conversation. I do see a problem with what the young woman was wearing. It isn't a beach, but a school dance.
not being there, I don't know how the chaperone approached her.

The only problem with that solution is that once the girls get inside they are just going to remove the cover up. In a dark crowded ballroom it's next to impossible for the chaperons to make sure the girls stay appropriately dressed. In fact, if you read the article the girl did offer to cover herself as you suggested. I think the officials were right to reject that offer for the reason I just mentioned. A suitable compromise would have been for the girl to go home, change her clothes, and then return, but she was far more interested in making a spectacle of herself than she was in actually attending the prom.
